Early Years at Woodloes
Our Early Years provision offers children a warm, nurturing and exciting start to their school journey, where they feel safe, happy and ready to learn. Early Years consists of our Nursery for ages 3–4, known as Saplings, and our two-form entry Reception Year group, where children continue to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity.

We provide a rich and engaging curriculum that follows Cornerstones, while also valuing the importance of learning through play and carefully planned experiences based on the children’s interests. This means children are supported in developing key skills, while also having opportunities to explore, investigate and lead their own learning.
Inside the classroom, children have access to a wide range of high-quality continuous provision, including areas for:
  • Reading and storytelling
  • Writing and mark making
  • Maths and number exploration
  • Role play
  • Small world play
  • Fine motor development
  • Creative activities and design

These carefully planned areas help children build strong foundations across all areas of learning, while developing their imagination, communication and independence.

We are also proud of our brand new outdoor area, newly built this year. This exciting space allows children to develop their physical development, including both gross and fine motor skills, through climbing, balancing, building, exploring and outdoor learning.

Phonics and early reading are a key priority in Early Years. We teach phonics daily using our newly implemented and highly successful scheme, Supersonic Phonics, which supports children in developing strong early reading and writing skills. Maths is delivered through the White Rose approach, helping children build confidence with number, shape, pattern and problem-solving in a practical and engaging way.

Children also benefit from a wide range of enriching experiences, including:
  • Forest School sessions
  • Weekly PE sessions
  • Extra-curricular opportunities such as Singing Town, school trips and participating in school clubs.
Our Early Years team is dedicated to ensuring every child feels valued, supported and inspired. We are proud that our children have a successful and happy start to their school journey, building the foundations they need for future learning and lifelong success.
