Overview of the PE and Sport Premium

The PE and Sport Premium is additional funding provided by the Department for Education to improve the quality of physical education, physical activity and sport in primary schools. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport and are required to publish details of how the funding is spent and the impact it has on pupils.

At Woodloes Primary School, we believe that high-quality physical education is an essential part of every child’s school experience and plays a vital role in developing lifelong physical literacy, health and wellbeing.

School Overview

Woodloes Primary School delivers the National Curriculum for Physical Education through a combination of qualified and experienced sports coaches and confident teaching staff. Staff are supported through our ‘PPP’ scheme of work, which ensures progression, consistency and high-quality teaching across all year groups.

How Did We Spend Our PE and Sport Premium and What Was the Impact?

The PE and Sport Premium funding has enabled Woodloes Primary School to broaden the range of physical activities available to pupils and increase participation in physical activity and sport.

Pupils access a wide variety of enhanced sporting experiences, including:

• Colour run

• Orienteering

• Freestyle football

• Dance workshop with Britain’s Got Talent finalist Felix Clements

• Zumba

• Quidditch

• Personal best challenges

• Skipping sessions

• Olympian visit

• Dance sessions

• Inter-school athletics and football competitions

• Archery

These opportunities increased pupils’ engagement in physical activity, improved confidence, and encouraged positive attitudes towards sport and physical fitness.

In addition, the funding supported targeted booster sessions for pupils who required additional support with fundamental movement skills, helping to improve physical competence and participation. Specialist coaching was also provided for our Girls’ Football Team, increasing participation in competitive sport and promoting inclusion and equal opportunities.

Swimming and Water Safety

Swimming and water safety are statutory requirements at the end of Key Stage 2. During the current academic year, our key focus is to further strengthen swimming provision and water safety skills. Funding is being used to support swimming opportunities to ensure pupils develop confidence, competence and safety awareness in and around water, enabling as many pupils as possible to meet the expected standards by the end of Year 6.

Sustainability and the Next Steps

We are committed to ensuring that the improvements made through the PE and Sport Premium are sustainable. By upskilling staff, using high-quality schemes of work, and embedding a broad and inclusive PE curriculum, we aim to ensure long-term impact beyond the funding period.

We regularly review participation levels, pupil outcomes and staff confidence to ensure the funding is used effectively and continues to support pupils’ physical development, wellbeing and enjoyment of physical activity.
