If a parent or carer has a concern about any aspect of the school or its organisation, they should first raise the matter directly with the school and seek to resolve it informally before beginning the formal complaints procedure. In most cases, concerns can be successfully addressed through open and constructive discussion.

Class teachers and other members of staff are often able to resolve concerns quickly and satisfactorily without the need for a formal complaint. The school values informal meetings and telephone conversations as effective ways to improve practice and maintain positive relationships with parents and carers.

To begin this process, a meeting should be arranged through the school office with the relevant member of staff to discuss the concern. Depending on the nature of the issue, it may be appropriate for the Headteacher to become involved and consider the matter as an informal complaint. Once the details are understood, the school will advise the complainant of the next steps.

These discussions are intended to resolve concerns in a fair and amicable manner. If, however, the matter cannot be resolved informally, it will proceed to the formal stage as outlined in the Trust Complaints Policy (see link below).
